Fast forward three years after graduating from my Fashion Degree and I’ve finally landed my ‘dream role’ as an assistant fashion buyer at Peacocks Head Office.
Anyone else like me and think they have everything planned out and had made a path that you set yourself to follow? Yes me too, however life doesn’t go the way you plan it and I have finally accepted that this is ok! I always thought that right after graduating in summer 2013′ I would walk straight into my dream job after spending a few months interning in New York or Los Angeles and have it all figured out, but boy I was wrong.
I ended up working another two years in the job I had started 5 years previous as a Saturday job back whilst I was at school. Even though I loved working at Next retail I really needed a full time position and after doing a year full time maternity cover on the home department I started falling in love with interiors and homeware.
That’s when I started looking for creative roles like interior design and came across the position of Interior Designer at Leekes department store in Cross Hands. After training for a month in their Llantrisant store learning about the world of interiors I was ready to start my journey as an Interior Designer. Even though I liked interior design I didn’t have the love for it like I did for fashion and accessories. I didn’t know where to start looking for a fashion job in Swansea other than a retail based role. Unfortunately a lot of head offices are based in London and at this point in my life I knew a move to London was definitely not for me right then or in fact ever. I got quite frustrated but found that Peacocks head office was based in Cardiff.
I applied for the job and the rest of history, I honestly am a big believer in “Everything happens for a reason” and although I didn’t walk into my dream role after graduating I honestly believe your whole journey/path or what ever you want to call it really is the way it’s meant to go.
