So as you’re all aware with the recent pandemic a lot of people have faced changes in their everyday lives, including working from home or (WFH). I feel that the companies who have been practically forced to have some of their staff work from home in order to survive might have changed the perspective of how they may operate after this is over. I cant help but think, is this the start of something new? With some companies realising it is in fact possible to have staff work from home and have a thriving business too.
If anything, the pandemic has made people become closer even if we aren’t physically close at all. Parents are able to spend quality time with their children, more people are getting a chance to cook meals from scratch, pollution is reducing, people are being more aware of their surroundings and many other beautiful things too.
I have put together a guide with a few tips for WFH in the hope to help you adjust to your new normal;
- Enjoy a lay in as you won’t be running for that bus, waiting for that taxi or maybe rushing to fill up your petrol tank before starting your journey to work.
- Have a fulfilling healthy breakfast to kick start your day. This is important as it will help stop you snacking in the lead up to lunch.
- Make sure to do your usual morning routine, wash your face, brush your teeth, do your hair and makeup and get changed. It can be so tempting to stay in your pyjamas all day but don’t get into that habit.
- Maybe take a brisk walk (if you have a dog use this opportunity to walk him/her) and get some fresh air before starting work for the day.
- Finally, set up a make shift desk at a dining table or if you have an office now is your time to utilise that space away from any distractions. Do not get into the habit of setting up from your bed.
- Lunch break, take this opportunity to whisk up a healthy lunch or even eat outside if its nice, watch a TV show or catch up on social media. Take this hour to do what ever you want to do this is your time.
- Make sure to have a bottle of water to hand its so important to stay hydrated during your working hours, it’s easy to forget.
- If you don’t like working in silence like me, put a radio on or listen to a Spotify playlist in the background. Loud enough to hear but quiet enough not to distract you.
- Make any communication with your colleagues or/and boss if you need to have a ’round up’ of your working day. Lastly pack everything away so there’s no sight of work remaining visible.
- Enjoy the evening as you normally would after getting in from work. eg. shower, change into loungewear, eat tea, watch tv for the evening or even squeeze in an at home workout.
I appreciate this post won’t apply to everyone especially those with children to look after with schools being closed too. Just try and adapt this guide to suit your lifestyle and I hope that it helps in some sort of way.
Lastly, stay home and stay safe.
